Damn this car looks almost new and I won't give it more than 150,000 miles on it. Congratulations for the hard work. Over 12 hours of work, some money spend on products, but the result is incredible. If your dad decides to sell the car this detailing sure risen the price with at least £ 500! Congratulations for your patience and dedication, it sure is satisfactory to do this kind of work. Just a minor issue: always use gloves when you are working to the car. It can really protect your skin and even if you hate gloves because of sweating, is still better than contaminating your skin with all those products.

The voice, and music already did the trick for me, as far as ASMR is concerned. Normally a video does not put me in that frame of mind, but wow, the detailing was great on the Astra, that's a good car. Makes me wish I had that car. The cleaning bit, seemed asmr to me, with the voice and music. Now what's really trippy, is an asmr video by Ikea. Search "asmr Ikea". Funny how the asmr in this video, made me want this car, like it's growing on me.

You're saying that you have no reason to be careful with water on the left side, because there's no battery there. But you actually do have to be careful there, probably even more so than with the battery, because the air intake is there, and because on such an old car most rubber seals are not really tight anymore. And what happens when water gets into the air intake and from there into the engine? Right. It will hydrolock.

Vor 3 Monate
Gábor Bérczi
Gábor Bérczi

You also felt comfortable with cleaning the engine without disconnecting the battery first. My point was not that you shouldn't do any of these (you do what you want anyway), but that just like on the battery side, caution is advised also on the other, air intake side, too, because that's not risk free either, due to the possibility of water ingress into the air intake, which in turn can cause the engine to hydrolock.

Vor 3 Monate
Torque Steer

I feel comfortable enough not to hydrolock the engine with a light spray from the hose, but I wouldn’t like to shoot a pressure washer at it.

yep, if you get the nozzle too close the pressure can damage certain parts, obvously you know a lot about cars by your clips.... most modern diesels, 2000 onwards have well waterproofed components....i always wash the engine down with a degreaser spray then washing up liquid in water and a hand brush then jet it off...petrols you have to cover and tape certain ekectrical parts...did my partners golf mrk 3 convert last year and was fine...if you have a k and n filter then bag and tape it, keep the engine tcking over as you jet wash it, drys in no time and takes 10 mis to do, if you dont have a batery cover on then bag n inso tape it, have always cleaned engines this way...always gets them spic n span...

The 1.7 Isuzu engine is a proper war horse - not much in the way of thrills, but keep on top of the oil changes (plus cambelt kit and water pump) and they will go on forever.

Vor 4 Monate
Phil McKibben
Phil McKibben

Your going to have serious problems with the coolant system in this car. I'd highly recommend checking both the oil cooler and injector sleeve seals. These are both a common weakness and leads to oil in water and water in oil. Pretty much shows head gasket failure symptoms but it's very rarely head gasket in the y17dt engine fitted here. Its obvious that it's experiencing these due to the black residue in your expansion tank. I'd recommend replacing the seals and cooler or bypassing the cooler and checking condition of all hoses as these can expand and become weak with exposure to oil internally. Also flush the system several times to remove all oil. This way your car will not only look good but perform well to and last another 100k

Vor 4 Monate
Phil McKibben
Phil McKibben

Torque Steer Aye they are. I find the genuine sensors last longer though. The cheap ones from all the usual scumbags ie (ECP) never last. I pur a genuine Isuzu one in and last 70k so far.

Vor 4 Monate
Torque Steer
Torque Steer

The crank sensor has gone a couple of times. And a couple of times in my 1.7 cdti too. Fortunately they’re quite a cheap fix.

Vor 4 Monate
Phil McKibben
Phil McKibben

Torque Steer excellent :) keep an eye out for the further oil. Good idea to replace or clean the expansion tank to keep an eye out for this as it's common for the injector sleeve seals to fail. 2 rubber orings on each sleeve that become brittle and allowed mixture of water and oil. Other wise these engines are very good apart from the fuel pump edu and crank sensor that seems to be a common fail also.

Vor 4 Monate
Torque Steer
Torque Steer

The oil cooler was bypassed about 50k ago because of oil in the coolant. The ‘dark’ tint to the tank is because it’s stained from the inside. It’s running good now though with no overheating problems.

I wish i could say the same about mk5 astras. There is a list of common faults. I have an astra sxi now, my previous mk5 got scrapped as it failed the mot on steering rack and would be expensive to fix. My sxi had the same fault but as it is newer i had it fixed. Also common faults are coil packs, rear coil springs, catalytic converters, and the alignment seems to go out easily. Other than that theyre grear cars but not built as solid as previous astras

There's absolutely no need to be that careful. Just soak the whole engine bay in degreaser, use a brush if needed and then blast it off with a pressure washer. I've done that many times on my 255k mile Astra and on plenty of other cars and never ever had a problem.

Would not recommend hosing or jet washing the engine bay though because of those delicate electronics in there and soaking all those gaskets will make them leak later on. you can have splits and warpage in the plastic casing in the abs electronic module area on old astra's,so its defo not a good idea to hose in the engine bay. Alright on old banger cars if your gonna sell quick but not on expensive ones of course. Good job though overall.(:-)

5183adam If you got a car that's not got much dirt in there just a layer of dust in some places and its solid under the bonnet with no rust your better off leaving it that way because it makes the car look "honest" and not been messed around with. Because cleaning the engine perfectly clean can make it look suspicious to some car guys as if your hiding a big oil leak under the bonnet like a bad oil seal for example,so really myself i would like to see a car with a dry engine bay with a surface layer of dust on the bulk head, suspension struts and surrounding areas to show the car has had an easy life and been looked after.

Vor 3 Monate

When I was a valeter years ago we would use the usual alloy wheel acid spray on the back side of the bonnet and the fabric as well as all over the engine and blast it all. We did use to bag up the ECU just in case and the old rovers were the worse for ECU u had to use 2 bags on them. The shit that used to come out of the fabric on the bonnet was unreal. The acid would bring everything up amazing. I couldn't use the acid if the car wasn't matalic pain tho

Vor 3 Monate
1066gaz
1066gaz

It would be ok on newish cars if you gonna sell it sooner rather than later, but a no no on old cars 10 years old + as some of those gaskets, o rings & grommets won't be in good condition as newish cars and will be prone to letting water past those worn seals & gaskets. If it gets behind the earth straps on the body & the engine it can prevent your car from starting as well. WD40 will get it going again but you got to be careful even with that because if you get it on the alternator bearings for example it can dissolve the grease inside and cause damage eventually. Don't forget deep waters and engines don't mix.
