3 TIPS FOR POLISHING BLACK SWIRLED PAINT YOU MUST KNOW!

Just for my own clarity, when you say "paint"..do you mean clear coat or base color coat? And "dead paint".. after it dies does it rise up through the clear coat to clog the pad?

Absolutely killer video Larry! So much prescription in detailing, this pad, this polish, this speed...I've spent hours researching. At some point you have to jump in, but at what risk? This is just the video that everyone NEEDS to watch. It's about process. Technique is easy, buying expensive s*#t is easy, but understanding approach and how to adapt, besides "start with the least abrasive" is difficult to put to words given the millions of cars and paint types...this is so well done, much appreciated. Thank you man!

I've been following your techniques for polishing black paint. I have a black Subaru Legacy (you know how Subaru is with their paint). It was a bit of a nightmare initially. I was using a fine polish and a finishing pad it almost seemed like I wasn't even cutting through the hazing. Thought I was crazy then I realized I just wasn't cleaning the pad enough. I started by clearing it a lot more often then looking back over it, the hazing was coming out. It took a good 8 hours but I saw it in the sun today, it's not perfect but I'd say way way better at this point. I have my girlfriends black VW Golf to tackle next. We'll see how that goes.

This goes against everything I've ever learned about detailing. Too much compound is even worse than not enough, and in my experience produces a lot more heat. I've seen molten backing pads from too much product. Wouldn't you just use the same product amount, but a more aggressive compound? Like using Scholl S3 Gold XXL. I'm also confused about you leaving embedded contaminants and work them out using a polish, rather than clay/ iron remover. Surely that's the point of those products? If you have lots of contaminants, they are going to be rubbed around with your buffing pad. That being said, I'm not detailing a Ford GT.

So much information in this video!!! I love it!! I'm really tired off all these mobile detailers makeing videos contradicting the steps that need to be taken. They play it off like this isn't important, or that isn't important....they keep watering down the detailing realm with bad, very bad information. Dont get me wrong I'm a mobile detailer but I dont make video after video of miss information and watering down the ideas and processes involved in correcting paint. I just dont get it. Disheartening at the least. What's worse is these guys feel like they are providing the correct information. My rant is over.. Hopefully someone else has seen this in the detailing community.

Hey Larry, I have been subscribed for a long time and have been watching your videos for several years. Your videos were the first videos that got me into wanting to really start to "DETAIL" my own cars and they struck an OCD cord with me. I have been working on my cars and other family members cars and getting better and better. Watching and rewatching your great comprehensive steps to detailing, for example the one here, have made a big difference. About 16 years ago I started a dark period in my life where a heart disease that I was diagnosed with at age 19 finally took over and I became completely disabled at age 38. After a series of operations, procedures and many many medications my heart finally arrived at the end stage of heart failure in 2016 and was placed on a heart transplant list. I was one of the lucky ones and a heart became available just 4 months after being placed on the list. The surgery was just over 2 years ago and I now know how normal people feel...lol. Sorry for the history but wanted you to know that while this was going on I was watching and learning. It would take my mind off things for a little while. I now want to jump into the detailing world with both feet. If you get time I would love to talk to you or exchange emails on how I can go about this. Thank you in advance. By the way...where can I get that detailing brush that was used at 16:06 in the video?

Hey Kevin, it's amazing that buffing is being taught threw a video and on a black paint job on top of everything else. You know as well as I do that it takes a lot of practice to buff and lots of knowledge of different kinds of paint and paint conditions. On the other hand, it's nice to see that buffing information is easy to access and not a secret that has been kept to only the automotive paint industry.

If you keep buffing and compounding on a regular basis sooner or later you will run out of paint on your car,as the man said you are removing paint and cutting paint. The best thing to do is to do it once and then put a protective polish on it that if you are going to keep the car for long.Thank you for your video .

These are false interpretations. I'm trying to be politically correct. This guy is a clown. Younger people trying to learn how to compound and polish a car with a buffer, this is what I've discovered in life at the age of 50. My data shows that 99.99 percent of the time when someone has to tell you that they are a professional, guess what?? swirl marks?? It means you skipped a step or two. You have gone from a hard cutting compound to a polish, maybe by accident. Go back and use a polishing compound the use a high polish wax. Boom. No swirls. There is no way to get swirls in paint unless you have used a heavy cut compound which means it's doing its job. The swirls are suppose to be there. Don't over think it and spend 16 hours worrying that your product was contaminated. This guy has them snowed into thinking he is worth 80 dollars an hour. And I mean nothing against him, he is probably a good buffer and is good at what he does, but leave that shot at home when you have people trying to learn something from what you have to say.
