In this video, I check out a Chinese head unit from a company called Seicane in my 2005 Audi A4. This head unit runs Android 8 Oreo and is custom fitted to the dashboard of my car. The question is, how does it stack up against my Pioneer App 4 Radio?

Question. I have the same car as you and same head unit. I found that when it's clipped in, it sits to far forward. And the cupholder doesn't open (I'm yet to cut the top a couple of mm) my question to you is. Once I cut the top do you think it would sit further back?. Just I can get my finger on the underside of it at the moment

+Torque Steer I know about the clips haha mine sits in now... But because of the clips I'll never be able to get it back out haha

It should sit further back once cut. Mine sits completely flush now with the dash with no clearance issues with the cup holders. I did remove the clips from the radio too that hold it in place (what you put the release keys in) as they didn’t seem to want to eject properly.

Hi, i have a question on a slightly different subject, where's the best place to go to get a radio code? I have lost the radio code for my Ford Focus, so no tunes having had the battery disconnected.

I couldn’t buy a stereo today without it being DAB, in Devon we have shit choice for stations, no KISS, no Capital or nothing, we’ve got heart and a local station which is crap

I'm not sure if I mentioned it in this video but you can add a DAB module to this.

Try hooking up the canbus wiring...you should then be able to fix steering wheel issue.

Hi there. Great video and helped me with installing a Eonon GA9157A in my Audi A3 '09 plate. Question: are you getting audio from your car speakers when using Bluetooth for phone calls? My sound seems to be coming out of the head unit itself and I don't know how to change it to the car speakers. Any thoughts?

Torque Steer thanks for the reply. I'm yet to try and play music through Bluetooth via my phone but I will try this next and I suspect it will play through the speakers as it wouldn't be much cop if it didn't. It sounds likey that there is some Bluetooth protocol playing a part as you helpfully pointed out. I have already accessed that extra settings menu (using code 126) to change the system volume etc and with a bit of luck that setting is there and can be changed (fingers crossed for that one). Just a word on the semi amplified setup: I have the same and I have it faded towards the rear to get a balance with the sound but to me it seems that the center speaker and pillar tweeters are now more prominent than the front door speakers? I've recently blown a rear door speaker as well so I need to replace it. Just thinking about it, wouldnt it be more ideal to have the front and rear powered by the head unit and the amp powering just the sub? Could this be done? I noticed in the equaliser there is a subwoofer slider control and for me it would be great to be able to turn that up and down independently.

To be honest, I'm not sure. My head unit doesn't seem to have any built in speaker so it all comes through the car's speakers. The only thing I'm thinking is this. My old Sony unit used to swap between different bluetooth modes depending on whether I had a call or was listening to music from my phone. I'm assuming it was using different bluetooth protocols. I'm guessing your head unit is diverting one of the protocols to a different speaker than the rest. Firstly, does bluetooth audio streaming work okay for you? Secondly, and it's a long shot, on my head unit I can enter a menu in the settings that requires a passcode (the code is 124 on mine, I think I shown it in this video when I was adjusting the volume). There is a section under there that allows me to change the BT protocol. I didn't have any luck changing mine but it might work for you.

The following is my experience, I hope to help everyone's experience, first of all, I will never buy any goods in Seicane, because the company's after-sales service is negative, this company will only sell goods to customers, they say can Returning the goods within one month, but they will not refund the goods. If there is a problem and they need help, they will only be perfunctory and circled during the dialogue and will never help the customer solve the problem. This is This Seicane company's practice, their work shirking responsibility often appears. In short, if you want to buy the goods of this company, I wish you good luck, if the goods have problems it is quite troublesome and impossible to solve, even if you complain about them This is the only way that dialogue will not be solved for you. I hope you can think twice before selling the goods. My question is true. This is an untrustworthy company. My goods were bought in early June but still Unresolved issue, still shirking and not giving me a return opportunity, so I only have a complaint!

The wiring heads they gave me were completely unsuitable! The main reason was that their staff shirked and perfunctory things. They said that they would help to change the wiring head. After that, they said that they had been sent to me, but in fact, another employee still works. In the middle, they often say the wrong words!

Great review. I believe I have the exact same car as you (2005 B7 A4). How did you go with the single DIN conversion to double DIN?

Vor 5 Monate
Torque Steer
Torque Steer

It’s fairly complicated unfortunately. You need the double din surround and the double din climate controls (slimmer). To fit the surround, you need to remove the glove box, driver’s kick panel, cup holders, dash trim, ashtray, gear surround, arm rest and whole centre console. Then you need to cut part of the centre console with a saw to get it to fit. It took a good 8-10 hours to convert it.

You could try viper4android which gives you much more control over the sound output than stock. I've had a android head unit for 4 years now and it's been really good. Except these days google maps craps out just when I'm getting near my destination. Its like it knows.

I was considering changing my navplus unit for an android but then I figured out that I don't need one. Just a USB adapter and a Bluetooth receiver for the navplus unit allows music or i can jiggery pokery a WiFi system if i want it to play videos from my phone. The problem with android head units is you can't use half the features while driving unless you want to die in a crash and they require you to have your phone connected. Why would you want to pay £350 more than you have to if you can do the same thing with small adapters at a fraction of the price?. Another problem is fan location. If the fan is in the wrong place it will be blocked by dashboard components and cause the unit to overheat and shut off, especially in mk4 mondeos. For audi, if you have navplus, you lose the gala function which is the auto volume adjust depending on speed and also the speedometer calibration system for when you have different sized wheels from standard, which is a hidden feature in the comfort control unit and you need the navplus to set it. Manufacturers should allow 3rd party compatibility by default so you can change stuff out without losing functions. They made Microsoft do it..

Torque Steer when I had a mk4 mondeo I bought a pioneer unit from halfords and had it fitted with all the bells and whistles and a £70 cable for steering wheel controls that didn't work. Then the head unit was switching itself off because of the mounting bar for the dash was blocking the fan. Refunded the lot. That makes me weary of buying one for the rs6 because I have the media pack with all the TV, dvd's, screens in the headrests and bundles of wiring I have no clue what it's for. With that pack you get a choice of the rarest of rare steering wheels that has all the media buttons AND the thumb buttons for changing gears instead of pappy fladdles. Not once have I seen the same steering wheel on ANY advertised rs6 so far for the last 2.5 years, only media buttons and pappy fladdles or no media buttons because the car wasn't ordered with the media pack.. The last thing I need is to be changing out steering wheels and gearbox setups etc.. Too expensive to justify even a £2000 unit. Then there's canbus which is a whole different dickhead in its own right. Don't get me wrong, they are great to have if they work but when they don't it kinda ruins the show especially when it takes a feature away that you actually like.. But the old systems are very outdated and need to be swapped out. My navplus is from 2008 ish so many roads don't exist, I don't have sdcard or Bluetooth media, digital radio, Internet access or touch screen but I really want them. It's a double edged sword mate!. The only secure option is having a dealer fit one for extortionate prices.. Ps still looking for led brake bulbs that are canbus compatible.. 1157's/ba15d. The "3 sided with a disc on the top, in black" do work but throw error codes and put my car in limp mode... 😢

From what I gather, some of these android units can integrate with the car's systems. I'd be very interested to try the one they have for the Ford Fiesta because the stock head unit in that controls a lot of the car's systems. I did discover some communication with my car though. The display in the middle of the speedo shows what station I'm listening too. Must be the canbus interface that comes with it.

John Capozzi that's why I said the goverments should make manufacturers allow 3rd party access to their systems. Even an emulator would help a lot. I was speaking from experience from once buying a pioneer system. Pioneer are a huge manufacturer that churn out more than alpine ever could. They still didn't cater for either of my cars at the time..

There are a few launchers on the Google Play store that can handle speed-sensitive steering for you. FCC Launcher and CarWebGuru work well in my experience, and both support speed volume (among a host of other things). For those of you worried about too much complexity and distraction in these units, another launcher to recommend is AutoMate Car Dashboard. That app uses a nearly exact copy of Google's Android Auto UI and functionality. Fire that up, and save the more complex/dangerous things like surfing, gaming or watching videos for when parked, at least you have the option with Android units. As for Kris' desire to have more OEM functionality in these units, that's no cheap or easy task. It's why RS Nav vehicle-specific Android units are more expensive than generic, it's why iDataLink interface boxes (and Maestro-compatible head units) are expensive. And lets face it, some hardware or software designer in a small Shenzhen factory simply doesn't have the access to a HUGE range of European or American cars across a number of decades to faff around with, nor do they have the manufacturer contacts (and OEM contracts) to get integration specs a company like Alpine has access to. That said, the Seicane reviewed here is a 300 quid unit, not a 1400+ quid unit like the Alpine X701D-A4R or something similar.

If you say that the audio quality of the chinese radio isn‘t so great, why do you want to upgrade your speakers? It‘s like, the radio is the new weak link in the system, not the speakers now. 🤔

Vor 5 Monate

The external DSP I mentioned will have an eq built into it which would be able to be balanced further. The signal from the head unit it fine, it’s the built in amp that’s not great. Going from the RCA preouts and even using the built in eq would be okay. The lack of LPF/HPF & time delay is the biggest problem.

Vor 5 Monate
Kris Nicholson
Kris Nicholson

That means you'd need a seperate equaliser too as the signal from the head unit will be poor quality and the amplifiers will amplify it..

Vor 5 Monate

I would be running external amplifiers and bypassing both the Audi one and the head unit’s.
