not really ideal.. battery replacement will cost more than the phone/tracker! ideally, you need to use a discharge prevention, some sort of voltage shut off ;)

Enable "find my phone" in device administrators on android and login to an account. Job done. Limited data plans need to install an adblocker like adguard. Google ad servers are in continuous contact but you can't stop or disable Google services.

+Torque Steer as far as I know, if you install all the Google stuff on ios you get "find my device". Under normal circumstances, yes you'd have to log in BUT if you are already using the same profile on an android it's just a click away. The problem is having a permanently live device without eating through data and keeping the 3rd party app alive. You're only going to spend 5 or 10 quid a month to keep the line active on a shoestring budget so it would be advised to use an adblocker and "find my device" on an old android as it runs natively whereas if you use a 3rd party app and it crashes you won't find f*k all in a hurry. Find my device is compatible with older devices (I think back to 4.3 jelly bean). Cum se, cum sa. Swings and roundabouts. At the end of the day its best to put a proper dedicated tracker in but in a pinch this will do for short term.

Afaik, wouldn’t you have to log in every time to see where your device is? I thought older androids didn’t have that feature and iOS wouldn’t be able to access it too. I may be wrong.
