Two Bucket Wash Method Alternative

Look after your detailing buckets how long do they last years ? How long can you use your 6 wash mitts before they start causing more scratches than the 2 bucket method you’ll need to replace your witts every few months will end up costing more money than the 2 bucket

I think this method is much better than the 2 bucket method. I am a professional detailer, I don't use the 2 bucket method. I use a one bucket, one nozzle method. One bucket with wash solution and grit guard (although grit guard is not really necessary) and I wash the wash mitt with the pressure washer before dunking back into bucket. I wash the car in strips, circling the car a couple times and going from top to bottom because the bottom is the dirtiest part, so I do the bottom part of the whole car last. At the end of the wash there is no dirt in the wash solution because the mitt is always cleaned before going back in. I also wash the wheels separately. I am going to give your method a shot though, looks effective!

Thanks :) I've heard of that method before. It seems a good alternative to the two bucket method too.

Can i ask about your cannon, i bought one from amazon and for the life of me it wont for my Mac jet wash, can you explain how yours goes on

My lance separates half way down and it slots into there. Don’t try to put it on the end where the jet is (in the case of my Nilfisk anyway. )

What do you do with the wash mits after use? Washing machine? Rinse? Or throw away?

Washing machine. You can rinse if you want to.

Good method but I would snow foam to get the loose dirt off there’s also another method where you would re wash as normal then use shampoo in a spray bottle wash the panel then rinse the mitt out

Vor 7 Monate

It was snow foamed first, I didn’t really explain that part very well :/ I’ve seen the spray bottle shampoo method, that looks to be quite good too. I like the high concentration of shampoo and less water used.

Sorry if i missed it in the video, but which snowfoam are you using? Im using avalanche and the foam just doesnt hold on the car

I’m using avalanche too. For some reason, the toffee one seems thicker. Might just be my imagination though.

Absolutely great advice, Tesco do the wash mitts for £2 each at the moment they are on special offer. Here are a couple of great videos that explain the reasons to it. http://youtu.be/_qpjOR--Zxg http://youtu.be/o8HdGrwcw5k Love the videos keep them coming.

The moisture lubricant in Ammo NYC's new "Frothe" product is a humectant, and is found in shaving foamand moisturisers. But his foam had been specially developed to be extra thick and work with a custom made portable foam gun. Also, when he demos a car wash with just foam he uses lots of microfibre towels and "rolls" and lifts the surface of the towel away from the paint as he cleans a panel to make sure he's not dragging grit across the surface. (He designed it for when you might want to wash the car but do not have access to buckets and water.) To be honest, for me, detailing a car is in the "detail". To do it properly it does take time and effort. But I do appreciate that sometimes people are after speed and convenience above all else. (Although watching how they work at the hand car wash at the local supermarket brings tears to my eyes )

Vor 7 Monate
Torque Steer

I’d love to see a snow foam designed with the humectant within it. From what I can gather, this snow foam I used doesn’t contain them. I believe one with humectants in it would yield even better results. I wouldn’t mind trying Frothe out though. It’s the only waterless wash that kind of looks like it might be safe.

I find the two bucket method a lot of labour, especially for a car with poor paint to begin with. If you can reduce water consumption and swirls with this method you are on to a winner. Would love to see a fifth gear-esq comparison test, two bucket vs your method, if you had the resources to put something like that together.

I think I remember the one you mean. Didn’t they take three Astra’s through different wash methods?

Torque Steer a good light and a high quality camera would probably be enough. Tim Shaw did a fifth gear comparison of methods years ago, should be on here.

I will have a look into it. I'd probably need a microscope to assess how much damage each wash is doing.

If you're going to do this method you should use a dedicated shampoo via lance rather than snowfoam, snowfoam doesn't have added lubricants like a shampoo does

Love your videos Luke but for me I completely disagree with this method it might be okay if you own a car with hard paint such as you ie an Audi but the whole idea behind prewashing a car is to REMOVE the road film as much as possible BEFORE you even touch the paint this is why the lower panels and front and rear should be sprayed with APC or TFR allowed to dwell then snowfoam once removed move on to the contact method this is not a rant it’s my method and professional opinion keep up the videos Luke

Torque Steer for me I try and use the same prewash technique the snowfoam is basically very mild shampoo I get what you are trying to accomplish in my buckets i have a special angled grit guard that really helps remove any loose grime from the wash mitt or pad I just think this method may confuse viewers but worth putting the video out there

It’s probably more suited to a weekend warrior because the mitts would need a thorough wash out before being used again. I machine wash mine when finished. I’ve tried a few gloss enhanced shampoos but none with si02. In terms of lubrication, I didn’t find them to be a world apart from pure shampoos. May I ask, as I respect your opinion, why you personally think this method may scratch/damage the paint given that it had the same pre wash as the bucket method?

Vor 8 Monate

Torque Steer Fair enough Luke have you tried SIO2 infused shampoo or gloss enhanced shampoo you could only really use this method at home not as someone like me who does customers cars I would his a shed load of mitts but still a well put together video as usual 👍🏻

Fair do’s Paul :) the car is pre washed as normal though and rinsed. This is the second application of snow foam in place of the shampoo.

I usually start with spraying the car down with a TFR or A APC before a prewash . Then hit it with a snow foam , and then carry on as normal . Great video as always , which supermarket do you use Tesco or Aldi ?.

I've been doing a big rinse, foam with 6 mitts for years on my ST. So many people cringe at the idea but I've only polished her once, no swirls yet. Quality mitts and autofinesee avalanche and sorted 👍

Torque Steer I value my spare time 😌, takes me 30-40 minutes for a full clean and dry. If your panels are prepped and sealed a maintenance wash like this every 2 weeks is king!

A really nice theory there, I like it 👍👍👍 I too use the simoniz mitts that you use, they are soft, last quite some time and are cheap enough from Tesco for a bulk buy which I did also, lol. I like the idea of the 12 surfaces to use, another safe washing method that is sound in its idea, thanks for sharing it 👍👍👍👍

And you dont have to keep repeating the pass on the same surface. Once you have done one pass it is clean. Otherwise you are just rubbing the grit over the same pannel

It's not really needed in this method as each wash mitt is clean for each panel. I machine wash the mitts when finished so they're very clean when they're used again on the car. But as above, whatever works best for you :)
